Montpelier7:00 p.m.An Evening with Grace Paley & Susan Thomas
In celebration of National Poetry Month, we are honored to welcome Grace Paley, Vermont State Poet. Paley, a long time resident of Thetford, VT, is the author of three collections of poetry, most recently, Begin Again: Collected Poems. She is also the author of three highly acclaimed collections of short fiction and her book Collected Stories was a finalist for the 1994 National Book Award. Paley has taught at Columbia and Syracuse University, City College of New York, and Sarah Lawrence College, where she has taught creative writing and literature for 18 years. Appearing with Paley will be poet Susan Thomas of Marshfield. Thomas was the winner of the 2003 Iowa Poetry Award from the Iowa Review and of the 2003 Ann Stanford Prize from the University of Southern California. Her stories, poems, and translations have appeared in many literary journals and anthologies. All are welcome. Free.

— April 9th - 15th
Based on a true story, Monster relates horrifying events that overtook one disenfranchised woman over a decade ago. Aileen Wuornos (Charlize Theron) had a troubled childhood plagued by abuse and drug use in Michigan, becoming a prostitute (and pregnant) by the age of 13. Wuornos eventually moved to Florida where she became a highway prostitute, servicing professional truck drivers. This movie focuses on the nine month period in 1989 and 1990 during which she had a relationship with a woman named Selby (Christina Ricci), and during which she also began murdering her clientele. Rated R. 111 minutes.
