In just over seven years, thirty-four-year-old Kurt Elling has risen to international prominence as a groundbreaking jazz singer, has established himself as a composer and lyricist, and has gone on to write and direct broadly-based literary and artistic events. Every one of his recordings for the prestigious Blue Note label has been nominated for a Grammy Award. — 2nd Saturdays, November through April
Both acoustic and electric Blues musicians are encouraged to attend as the evenings will alternate acoustic and electric sets while still maintaining a strictly Blues format. A host will manage the line-up using a sign-up sheet so be sure to sign in as soon as you arrive. A drum kit, bass amp & small PA system will be provided. Guitarists and keyboardists should bring their own amplification. Harps, sax, etc. can plug into the PA. All ages are welcome. $5/person; musicians are free. Contact Ted, 533-7150. It's that time again! Get excited about gardening at this morning workshop on great perennials for Vermont gardens, with Mary Tharp of Layne's Garden Design. Mary is a Vermont Certified Horticulturalist and graduate of Vermont Technical College's horticulture and design program. She will show slides and discuss soil preparation, plant choices, cultivation and care of perennials. All are welcome. Free.

Based on a true story, Monster relates horrifying events that overtook one disenfranchised woman over a decade ago. Aileen Wuornos (Charlize Theron) had a troubled childhood plagued by abuse and drug use in Michigan, becoming a prostitute (and pregnant) by the age of 13. Wuornos eventually moved to Florida where she became a highway prostitute, servicing professional truck drivers. This movie focuses on the nine month period in 1989 and 1990 during which she had a relationship with a woman named Selby (Christina Ricci), and during which she also began murdering her clientele. Rated R. 111 minutes.
